Challenge
The video editing suite of this high-volume production company needed a central server and storage for raw video footage while awaiting editing. The server needed to be accessed at gigabit speeds from within that suite, but also had to join to the wireless network across the hall for other production staff to stream video onto their laptops at 802.11n speeds.
Approach
Macinhome deployed a Mac Pro server with four 1000GB hard drives in 2 RAID 0 striped sets, installed and configured OS X 10.4 Server software, and wired the editing suite with gigabit ethernet and a switch. The network was configured to allow share points to be accessed wirelessly by the rest of the production office, with an Airport Extreme.
Results
The server configuration performs impeccably. The creative staff working in the editing suite can store their data with minimum data transfer time, with the added ability to stream video over the network as required.
