How to stop your Mac joining the wrong Wifi network

Do you ever try to get online and find that your Mac has automatically joined the wrong effing Wifi network? We hate that – and it wastes a LOT of time. Here’s how you fix that once and for all. There’s a 1 ish minute video here, and written instructions below.

To stop your Mac from joining the wrong Wifi network automatically:

  1. Click Apple menu in the top left
  2. Click System Preferences
  3. Click Network
  4. Make sure Wifi is selected on the left
  5. Click Advanced… and make sure the Wi-Fi tab is selected
  6. Scroll through the list of “Preferred Networks” and drag your network to the top
  7. Remove any unwanted ones by selecting them and clicking the minus button
  8. Voila! Enjoy all the free time and peace of mind knowing you will always join the right networks.
